The city of Stratford intends to take the province to court regarding Strong Mayor Powers.
In a release the city says an application has been submitted to the court and raises constitutional considerations including the Strong Mayor Powers legislation is inconsistent with section 3 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
In a council meeting last year, staff was directed with the City Solicitor to examine the possibility of issuing a legal challenge to the Strong Mayor legislation.
Councilor Mark Hunter says they have expressed concerns how the Strong Mayor framework may affect municipal governance including how elected officials participate in decision making.
