Stratford Highschool Basketball Coach Retires

Rob James who followed in his fathers footsteps coaching basketball at Stratford District Secondary School is hanging up his hat and retiring.

This September will mark the first time since 1964 a James has not coached basketball for the school which was formally known Northwestern Secondary. Rob James has been involved with school since the 60’s and early 70’s when he played basketball for the school, coached by his father, Pete.

As a student at Northwestern, Rob James was a successful athlete, heading to OFSAA as a cross country runner and winning athlete of the year.

James joined as a coach in 1992 preparing juniors to join the senior team which was coached by his dad. Rob took over as seniors coach for both the boys and girls in 1999 when his dad retired.

While primarily a basketball coach, James also helped with soccer, volleyball and track and field sprinters.
