The Stratford Festival held the Official Grand Opening of the new Tom Patterson Theatre this morning.
The ceremony included a fly-over and airplane formation by the Rumbling Radicals, a herald of the Fanfare musicians and ribbon cutting.
The $70 million dollar venue hosted it’s first performances of the new theatre season this afternoon with a performance of Richard III featuring legendary actor Colm Feore as the title role.
Construction of the venue was complete by the Summer of 2020 but was derailed from full use by the pandemic.
The Festival resorted to an outdoor stage last season to adhere with health restrictions and also offered online pre-taped digital performances.
The Tom Patterson Theatre boasts over 77,000 square meters of space including the Lazaridis Hall, an educational workshop, flexible hall with removable stage, a skylit café and member lounge.
