It was a big year for the 2024 Perth County Stewardship Program.
In their inaugural year there was a large uptake by landowners and non profits across the county which resulted in 14,955 trees being planted with the support of the Stewardship Program.
The program offered a series of intake streams to support community groups and individual landowners to complete stewardship programs across agricultural and rural lands.
Hannah Cann, Resiliency & Stewardship Coordinator says when she shared the results with the Woodlot Association they were over the top with pride for the county.
“There were audible gasps in the room about the success and multiple came up to me after saying ‘kudos to Perth County for making this investment and leap towards stewardship.’ A lot of those people were coming from Huron County where their programs been in life for 20 years.” said Cann.
A recommendation to council to increase the support for the Stewardship Program in 2025 is expected to be made at some point in the near future.
