Centre Wellington councilor Steven VanLeeuwen will be able to keep his seat however he might not be keeping his role as deputy mayor.
Mayor Kelly Linton said he will be introducing a motion at their next council meeting on February 16th to remove VanLeeuwen as deputy mayor. VanLeeuwen joined the “End the Lockdown Caucus” last week, a group of politicians who are opposed to lockdown and public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The members, which include PPC leader Maxime Bernier have said lockdowns are doing more harm than good and causing a large spike in mental health issues.
