A resident of the St. Marys area, children’s book author, and a survivor of the Sixties Scoop has won the 2022 First Nation Communities READ Award.

S.P. Joseph Lyons is from Kitigan Zibi First Nation, and was placed in foster care as a young child.

Through his experiences, his book “Little Bear in Foster care” makes foster care a little less frightening.

The book connects children to a range of emotions, encourages them to find their voice, process feelings and let them know they are not alone or to blame.

The book is available in both English and Anishinaabemowin.

He has also released a second book in his Foster Care series entitled “Wolf Pup Finds His Pack”.
