The St Marys Volunteer Fire Department has received a grant from Farm Credit Canada through the FCC AgriSpirit Fund allowing for the purchase of Wildland Firefighting coveralls for the whole department.
This year, FCC donated $1.5 million through the AgriSpirit Fund for 88 community groups across Canada to support rural projects.
The coveralls, along with water backpacks are key to allow firefighters to move quickly and contain fires where trucks may not always be able to reach.
The equipment is lightweight, durable and protects well against heat, flames and embers.
