The Cook Rees Memorial Fund for Water Search and Safety is supporting St Marys aquatic programs to the tune of $10,000.
A grant given to St Marys will support four initiatives.
The first will be for swimming lessons for newcomers to Canada, another to loan life jackets for residents and families, the third to address safety issues related to language barriers at the St Marys Quarry and the last being lifeguard training.
Lorenna McKennitt, founder of the Cook-Rees Memorial Fund says these programs are important as around 500 people drown in Canada every year.
