The Special Investigations Unit is involved after a Wellington County OPP officer discharged a “less-lethal” firearm at two male youths on Tuesday.

In a release, the SIU says police responded to an address in Harriston for a disturbance with two males seen causing damage to a residence.

Officers tried to negotiate and eventually resulted in an officer firing at both men with anti-riot weapon Enfield rounds, both were arrested and taken to hospital.

The SIU says both men did not sustain and serious injuries but the SIU mandate has been invoked as police discharged a less lethal weapon, classified as a firearm.
