Despite the vaccine rate being where the province needs to be to consider stage 3 of Ontario’s reopening plan, officials say the province is not ready.

Officials on the Ontario Science Advisory table say the spreading delta variant continues to be a concern as a single dose will not protect residents from the variant.

The Advisory table wants to see at least 75 percent of Ontarians fully vaccinated before considering moving to stage 3. As of Thursday, over 50 percent of adults in the province have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Based on guidelines, July 21st would be the earliest Ontario would move to stage 3.

Moving to stage 3 has received back and forth discussion such as the mayor of Brampton who says its time to move ahead with the next step.
