Robert Prevost Named First United States Born Pope

Robert Prevost of Chicago has been named as the next Pope, becoming the first from the United States.

Prevost, a 69 year old member of the Augustinian religious order took the name Leo XIV.

Prevost had been a leading candidate for the Pope but there had been a long taboo against a US Pope given the country’s geopolitical power already held but Prevost was looked as eligible because he also a Peruvian citizen having lived in Peru for years, first as a missionary and then as an archbishop.
