On the 19th of August, 1942, exactly 80 years ago the Allies took part in the Dieppe Raid in northern France.

The raid, also known as Operation Jubilee saw over 6050 infantry consisting mostly of Canadian troops.

Within 10 hours, over 3600 of the troops who landed were either killed, wounded or taken as prisoners of war.

MP John Nater posting to social media, highlighting of the 907 Canadians who died 80 years ago, the locals who sacrificed their lives.

“Among those who died include Sapper Cyril Hodson of Stratford, Gunner Morris Vick of Listowel and Private Clarence Percy East who was a pipe fitter at the CNR Shops in Stratford.” said Nater.

Dieppe was marked for the Allies which also set a framework for the landings in Normandy two years later.
