More than 10,000 students across Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph are at risk of facing suspension if their immunizations records aren’t updated.

Public health says they have sent out letters to parents about immunizations for elementary students with incomplete records saying they have until March 6th to update their records or their students could be suspended.

Chuck Ferguson, Communications Manager with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health says the Immunization of School Pupils Act requires students to be up date with immunization records to avoid suspension.

Those who can’t be immunized for medical reasons need to have a Statement of Medical Exemption with those with religious or conscientious reasons needing to follow other steps.

The COVID-19 vaccine or flu shot is not considered as a requirement but is strongly encouraged.
