Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health says at least 88 people have fallen ill with food poisoning who attended an event last month.

Public health says 88 guests who were at an International Womens Day event in Orangeville have found themselves experiencing vomiting, headaches and nausea after eating contaminated food at the event.

The food in question are sweet potatoes and quinoa in a chicken bowl which was prepared by an outside caterer.

Inspectors found the caterers food preparation of the quinoa and sweet potatoes didn’t allow them to cool properly and kept them at room temperature for too long during the plating service.

Inspectors also found the potatoes were not washed prior to be cut, increasing the likelihood of bacterial growth from surface contamination.
