Huron Perth Public Health offered an updated snapshot on the state of Covid-19 in the Huron Perth Region today.
They say there are a steady number of new cases and moderate levels of community transmission in the area. The more that it happens they say the higher the likelihood of outbreaks in schools, workplaces and other settings.
Many of the cases they say are associated with social gatherings and events.
The outbreak at Milverton Public School has been declared over. A new outbreak was declared at North Perth Spinrite Child and Family Centre yesterday, November 23rd.
The state of vaccination in the Region has 85.6% having received their first dose of vaccine and 83.1% having been fully vaccinated with2.
The 18-39 age group continues to have the lower vaccination coverage, with almost 1/3 of those eligible not protected from infection with the vaccine.
There remains approximately 8000 unvaccinated people age 12 and older and more than 18,000 children ages 0 to 11 in Huron Perth.
On November 19th Health Canada approved the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine for 5 to 11 year olds. Any child turning 5 by the end of 2021 (born in 2016) and older are eligible.
Over 2900 appointments have been booked since vaccine appointments were begun for that age group yesterday.
