Ontario Labour Minister Monte McNaughton announced today that, due to what they are calling a failure of the Federal Government to improve the Federal sick leave program, they will be working on a program of their own.
This comes after months of pressure from Public Health across the Province who say that paid sick leave would contain the workplace spread of Covid-19 that has seen cases rise over the past 13 months.
The new sick leave program could be announced Wednesday at the earliest.
Premier Ford hasn’t made an appearance publicly since Friday when he announced the strengthened health measures that have been revised in recent days.
The PC Party scrapped the previously guaranteed 2 days of paid sick leave when they took power from the Liberal Party following their major win in 2018.
The voices leading for a provincial sick leave program include health officials, mayors, the other provincial parties and the government’s own group of advisers.
