The Ontario Government said in a release today that they are seeking advice on designing a plan that provides workers with benefits such as health, dental and vision care. The projected plan would even provide coverage if the worker changes jobs.
Currently those that work in such areas as retail, the gig and the hospitality have limited to no benefits coverage.
The government say they intend to create and appoint an advisory panel to recommend a system, which would make Ontario the first province in Canada to pursue such a comprehensive system of benefits.
The proposed panel would look at how benefits could reside with workers and would provide recommendations on how best to administer the system.
