The Provincial Government announced today that they will be launching a sick day program for Ontario residents.
The “Ontario Covid-19 Worker Income Protection Program” will provide 3 paid sick days and will be administered by the WSIB. The government will reimburse employers 100% of an employee’s wages up to $200 per day.
They also announced that the Provincial Government program will provide a $500 top-up to the Federal Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit conditional on federal approval.
The program is intended for workers who are sick or are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, need to get vaccinated or have Covid-19 related mental health issues.
The program is expected to cost between $750 million and $1.5 billion dollars and will run until September 25th, 2021.
It is expected to be retroactive to April 19th.
