Phishing Scam Costs Erin Resident $50,000

Wellington County OPP are warning residents of a scam which hit an Erin resident who lost $50,000.

On January 17th the victim received a call from an unknown phone call with a scammer posing as a fraud investigator from a local bank.

ThE scammer told much detail about the victim, including their bank information.

The conversation lasted 5 hours which ended with the scammer telling the victim their bank cards were no longer valid and someone would come to pick them up.

The scammers then took $50,000.
