Wellington County OPP are warning the public around the circulation of the lost pet scam.
On August 31st, a local resident shared a photo of their cat on social media in an effort to find their lost pet.
Over this process the resident got an email from someone saying they found their cat, asking for $250 for it to be returned.
Further, the fraudster sent a photo of post the resident had originally posted but was digitally altered.
The resident became suspicious and called police before sending money.
OPP ask the public to stay alert and educated to reduce and risk of becoming a victim of fraud.
