Perth County council has approved a plan which will see speed limits be reduced in rural school zones.

Asset Management and Engineering Specialist Bill Wilson says the county had been in talks with school boards and councils on the speed limit in school zones specifically in rural areas where the posted limit is 80km/hr.

The correspondence has mainly been regarding the speed of which drivers are going in these school zones during school hours during the morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

County staff has recommended to make the change to drop the speed limit to 60km/hr in posted school zones when signs are flashing. Speed limits will remain at 80km during non school peak hours.
