Perth County councilors have voted to adopt the county’s shared greenhouse reduction plan.
Climate co-ordinator Amara Katrick shared a presentation to council, one similar to other presentations given to Stratford, St Marys and other local municipalities.
The plan outlines goals and actions to help fight climate change by reducing carbon dioxide and other emissions created by transportation, waste systems and residential and commercial buildings.
Among concerns by some councilors was the impact on Perth County’s over 450,000 acres of cultivated farmland has on greenhouse gas emissions through carbon sequestering.
Data from the shared plan, Stratford, St Marys, North Perth, West Perth, Perth East and Perth South emitted around 706,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas in 2017.
