Perth County receives Report on Automated School Bus Arm Camera Systems at Thursday Meeting

The issue to date as mentioned in the report is low adoption by municipalities due to their high administration and adjudication costs, as well as the extensive court processing time required.

Perth County Council received a Staff Report on the topic of Automated School Bus Stop Arm Camera Systems and Administrative Monetary Penalty Systems at yesterday’s council meeting.

In it staff discussed the potential for installing the measure on area school buses to capture images of vehicles passing school buses while they’re stopped either dropping off or picking up students.

The issue to date as mentioned in the report is low adoption by municipalities due to their high administration and adjudication costs, as well as the extensive court processing time required.

The consultant stated that future steps could include exploring the cost/benefit on the system and the expenses and resources needed for possible implementation.

Council has delayed a decision on the system pending what they were told were forthcoming guidelines and legal framework related to the system.
