Parochial School Proposal in Wallace

North Perth is one starting step in to adding in another school, this time over in Wallace. Council gave an approval to a zoning bylaw to help pave the way.

The proposed change would be to permit the use of a parochial school for community related horse and drawn transportation.

Among the biggest concerns around this topic revolves around the safety of students walking to school with the proposed school being on Line 87.

Councilor Marc Noordam, echoing comments from Dave Johnston in support of the motion pointed towards the Transportation Master Plan and how the roads around the school can be boosted with the plan for added safety.

“The concerns are very valid. I think with our new master plan coming up this is something we’ll have to really look at making sure the shoulders are wide enough and signage and I’m sure staff is way ahead of us on that.” said Noordam.

Lee Anne Andriessen was the lone voter against the motion who mentioned not even she would walk along Line 87.
