Wellington County OPP are urging safety on the roads as there has been an uptick in serious crashes in the county involving bicycles.
On December 7th and 9th, police responded to two separate crashes involving cyclists, both resulting in deaths.
Those who have to head out onto the roadways are reminded to equip your bikes with lights and reflectors if you’re riding at night in limited daylight and low visibility weather.
OPP Sergeant Kevin Driscoll says as winter keeps intensifying, he strongly advises against cycling.
“Icy surfaces, reduced visibility and unpredictable traffic patterns significantly increase the risk of serious collisions.” said Driscoll.
OPP add bicycles are vehicles under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and subject to the same rights and responsibilities to obey all traffic laws.
