Phishing phone call scams posing as computer technicians continue to target local citizens via landline, taking money from residents and OPP continues to urge the public to be aware.
On September 24th a Centre Wellington resident was called on their landline saying their computer was hacked and needed to be restored with the victim told to purchase $1000 worth of gift cards for the repair and given the numbers to the scammer.
Shortly after the scammer called back asking for $14,890 from their bank when at that time the victim was suspicious and contact police.
Police say if you get an unsolicited call or message asking for personal information or payment via gift cards to not provide such information and block the phone number.
