With the recent snowstorms across the region over the last week, the OPP and Ontario Federation Snowmobile Club are highlighting the importance of keeping safe while out on the trails.
Every year many collisions occur on snowmobile trails as OPP continue to patrol and ensure everyone is practicing safe riding.
Constable Jillian Johnson of Perth County OPP say speed is a major factor and its important for everyone to slow down while having fun.
“Same on the roads, same on the trails, everyone needs to slow down. Especially with snowmobiles, they are very powerful. If miss a turn or a curve, its just too easy for something to go wrong” said Johnson.
Johnson adds almost half of fatal snowmobile collisions factor in alcohol or drugs and reminds riders to stay sober like they would in any vehicle.
