Following the advice from immunization officials, Ontario will not be using AstraZenecas COVID-19 vaccine on seniors 65 and older.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization said earlier this week they do not recommend the use of the vaccine on seniors due to limited data on its effectiveness on older populations.
Half a million doses of the vaccines are expected to arrive today and while they can be stored at room temperature, only hold a shelf life of one month.
Health Minister Christine Elliot did not specifically say who they’d prioritize AstraZenecas vaccine for but healthcare workers and those in correctional facilities, where outbreaks are on the rise are expected to be done.
