Ontario not mandating vaccination to students or teachers

Comments from Province come in contrast with Chief Medical Officer

The Province and Education Minister Stephen Lecce has clarified that even with their plan for a safe return to classrooms this fall they won’t be mandating that anyone be vaccinated.

The Minister says that the government will continue to advocate for its immunization campaign but a forced mandate is not on the table at this point.

This is in contrast to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore saying that he’d like to see as much as 90 percent of eligible Ontarians fully vaccinated.

The province currently sits at more than 70 percent of those 12 years and older having both doses and fully vaccinated and over 80 percent having just one dose.

Dr. Moore stressed that vaccinations are the key way to maintaining a low rate of community infections which in turn will keep schools safe.
