Among one of the biggest topics in last nights Ontario leaders debate was the one to kick off the evening, the rising cost of living in Ontario.

PC’s Doug Ford and Liberals Steven Del Duca squared off early as Del Duca took mention of signing his 19 point affordability pledge to bring down the cost of transit, bring back rent control and assist seniors and more.

Doug Ford was quick to respond who brought mention to Del Duca serving under Kathleen Wynne when she was premier.

“You destroyed this province. The economy was going down faster than the Canadian Bobsled team. It just continued going down, 300,000 left this province. That’s 300,000 people who couldn’t pay their rent, pay their mortgage, put food on the table because of your terrible policies.” said Ford.

Del Duca denied all of Fords claims of the Liberal plan for this election, citing his pledge.

Mike Schreiner of the Green Party pledged to double ODSP to promise nobody should have to live in legislative poverty.

Schreiner even gave praise to NDP’s Andrea Horwath for amending the NDP plan to address issues such as housing, encouraging other leaders to do the same.

Horwath says addressing the cost of housing, rent control must be done.

Ford also gave praise to Schreiner who said he was honest and upfront adding he is the type of person who puts the political stripes behind him.
