Ontario is investing $8.4 million over the next three years on a police program which is aiming to improve responses to mental health-related calls.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones shared all the details in a conference on Tuesday which is part of this year’s provincial budget.

The program known as the Crisis Call Diversion Program will be staffed by mental health workers at OPP communication centres.

The program will first be set in offices in London and Thunder Bay with more locations being added this year.
