The Ontario government is dedicating $800,000 to Indigenous health care teams to help those who are experiencing trauma as a result of the residential school system.
The province says money will go towards eight Indigenous Primary Health Care Council member organizations to allow for culture based mental health and addictions care.
Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford says this will provide much needed support for residential school survivors, their families and the community.
This funding is in addition to $20 million committed to supporting burial investigations at sites of former residential schools in Ontario.
