Ontario Government Investing in Made in Ontario Fertilizer Solutions

The provincial government is investing up to $2 million over the next two years in the Fertilizer Accelerating Solutions and Technology Challenge.

The funding will support made in Ontario solutions to increase the availability of fertilizer options, alternatives and technology to ensure farmers in Ontario have the tools needed to rely on a safe and stable food supply.

Huron-Bruce MPP and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson says the government has heard from farmers saying action must be taken to increase the domestic supply of fertilizer options.

Consultations were held with farmers and the agri-food sector which brought the province to launch the challenge to address the ongoing supply chain issues for fertilizer, while also promoting innovation in the sector.

The challenge brings in a unique opportunity for agri-businesses and organizations to focus on investing in projects such as new solutions like bio fertilizers which can help reduce dependency on imported products.
