Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says those who most at risk for contracting COVID-19 will have access to long-term antiviral treatments.

Dr. Kieran Moore provided his first medical update in over a month announcing the expansion of accessibility to antiviral treatment for certain groups.

While Dr. Moore also acknowledged Ontario is in its next wave of COVID-19, there is no plan to bring back the mask mandate but adds it could be a requirement down the line.

“We will not be reinstating a broad mask mandate at this time, we should all be prepared that we may need to resume a requirement for mask wearing in indoor public spaces if a new variant of concern emerges.” said Dr. Moore.

Those eligible for treatments of antiviral includes anyone 18 and older who is immunocompromised, residents 70 and older, residents 60 and older with fewer than 3 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and residents 18 and over with fewer than three doses as well as a risk condition.
