Ontario announces More Homes Built Faster Act Today

Among the list of changes includes the ability to have up-to 3 residential units as part of a single residential lot without any bylaw amendments or municipal permission.

The Provincial Government announced sweeping changes to housing legislation today that is aimed at easing the housing crisis across Ontario.

Among the list of changes included as part of the More Homes Built Faster Act includes the ability to have up-to 3 residential units as part of a single residential lot without any bylaw amendments or municipal permission.

Duplexes and tri-plexes would also be able to be built on single residential lots, regardless of municipal zoning restrictions.

The legislation would also make it so municipal governments couldn’t set restrictions on the size of units or require more than one parking spot per unit. The new units would have to meet building code and municipal bylaws.
