Officials Call for Mandatory Hotel Quarantine for Border Crossers

Travelers fly to Buffalo then drive across border

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliot and Solicitor General Sylvia Jones are calling for tighter restrictions at the Canada-US border.

Both are calling for a mandatory three day hotel quarantine for all travelers at high traffic crossings. Both signed on a letter sent to Federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair and Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu.

Both Elliot and Jones say people will fly into Buffalo then take a taxi or car to get across the border, eliminating the need to quarantine in a hotel whereas returning flights into Canada must quarantine.

The call is for the mandatory stay at anyone crossing from Niagara, Windsor, Sarnia and Brockville.
