OFA meeting with Assoc. Minister of Children & Women’s Issues

Unique characteristics of rural childcare needs make universal approach difficult

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture announced today that they were meeting with Associate Minister of Children and Women’s Issues Jill Dunlop.

The key areas of the discussion were on flexible, accessible, affordable and high-quality child care for rural communities to address the needs of farm and rural families.

The unique characteristics that cause issue with childcare in rural areas include seasonal fluctuations in demand, scattered population with few users for any one type, little public transportation and long travelling distances and the need for home based child care where both parents work full or part-time on farm operations.
