The Nuclear Waste Management Organization announced it will host the Canadian Radioactive Waste Summit next Wednesday and Thursday. The event is open to all Canadian and Indigenous peoples to attend.
The free online event will bring people together from across Canada to share their views on the industry and should inform the development of a strategy for long term management for radioactive waste in Canada.
There is a deep geological repository for radioactive waste proposed for 1200 acres of former farmland north of Teeswaster. The waste would be buried 500 meters under the ground if approved.
This is 1 of the two sites proposed for the purpose; the other is in Ignace in Norther Ontario.
The final site is to be selected no later than 2023.
