A steer in Listowel on Monday afternoon came after an OPP officer hit a pedestrian with their cruiser on Elizabeth Street West.

While no major injuries occurred in the incident, many took to social media wondering what would happen to the officer involved with many pointing towards it being “swept under the rug” with no charges coming.

OPP Constable Jill Johnson was quick to debunk this, saying officers are held to a much higher standard.

“When an officer does do something wrong or makes a mistake we’re held accountable. Charges do get laid, especially criminal charges, that gets publicized a whole lot more. The oversight is huge. We are also investigated by the SIU, there are certain circumstances when they are notified but they investigate all police officers in Ontario.” said Johnson.

Investigation on the incident is still underway so the cause and the exact charges aren’t known at this time.
