While it isn’t certain, North Perth council is giving some thought in removing their X account.
A request from Teresa O’Reilly came into council on Monday on the request to remove their account on X or formally twitter, following in the steps of some municipalities who have already deleted their accounts to stand with Canada.
X is owned by Elon Musk who has used his own profile to spread anti-Canadian sentiment including a post saying Canada is not a real country.
Clerk Lindsay Cline says this year they do have a plan to review their social media accounts.
“We will be undertaking a review of our corporate communications plan and social media policy in 2025 so through that we’d look at what social media accounts were using, the engagement levels and the future of what our communications plan is.” said Cline.
As to whether or not North Perth will remove themselves from X is still to be determined.
