The North Perth Fire Department says the increase of false 911 calls is on the rise.
On Wednesday afternoon fire crews were called for a fire alarm sounding and upon arrivals crews determined the 911 caller had heard beeping coming from a level at a neighbouring property under construction.
The caller hung up and did not answer when dispatch and the fire department tried to connect.
The North Perth Fire Department says before calling 911 make sure there actually is an emergency and if you call in error to stay on the line so dispatchers aren’t tied up trying to reconnect.
The department adds false calls lead to volunteers being compensated for their time, something at a direct cost to the taxpayers.
