North Perth is continuing to grow its vision in agricultural locally in its Farm and Food Forward action plan.
Jessica McLean, the Manager of Strategic Initiatives spoke on the North Perth Agricultural Excellence report with Michael Keegan & Associates LTD which looks to build on the municipalities agricultural strengths and highlight issues in the local community.
Michael Keegan says there is a very unique positive to North Perth and supporting local agriculture.
“North Perth is home to very business-savy successful and forward thinking agricultural community. The relationship between the community and the municipality is generally positive, that is a unique feature.” Keegan.
Keegan added some issues affecting North Perth also affect a whole such as loss of land.
The Ontario Federation of Agriculture says the province is losing 319 acres of farmland a day.
Keegan says some solutions would involve the municipality working with major stakeholders and producers with every level of government to work on improving the sector.
