Conversation sparked in council Monday night regarding North Perth’s drinking water quality management standard review.
Residents for several months have turned to social media to share with others the water colour pouring from their taps.
Staff is working on mapping where complaints come from to properly identify locations where water discolouration is affecting residents.
Manager of Environmental Services Mark Hackett says anyone experiencing water discolouration needs to report it to the municipal website so staff can handle the situation as staff aren’t marking down social media posts for their mapping.
Hackett adds of the complaints they’ve received, they’ve been able to address the issues.
“We’ve sent staff to every single one, we’ve addressed all of the issues. Typically you hear back if its a continued problem, we haven’t heard any back from the ones we’ve addressed so far.” said Hackett.
Hackett says they map and document complaints received by the office adding they need more information and believes multiple issues are causing the discolouration.
“I think it’s a number of different issues possible occurring within the homes. It’s not that there’s not iron in the water, the water is no different than it was before, it still has iron in it…when it comes out of solution, settles into tanks and then gets flushed out with high water usage typically but I don’t want to say that’s in every situation because that’s not the case but I think that’s a fair statement to make.”
While residents may have seen plenty of posts across social media, CAO Kris Snell says they’ve received less than 25 complaints.
Council received the review report from Hackett for information.
