The Municipality of North Perth does not have a by-law regulating off road vehicles on Municipal Roadways.

Since January 1st the Ministry of Transportation has changed some ways the province handles how off-road vehicles to be allowed on-road in some municipalities. Council spent much time discussing the matter during Mondays council meeting.

Of some concern with regulating is dealing with those who rip around on farm land, damaging the property.

Farmer and councilor Dave Johnston expressed such concern which Shawn Thompson, representing the North Perth ATV club as a delegate. Thompson says they can focus on education and enforcing.

“We’ll try our best to educate the public. Bad people will be bad people unfortunately but hopefully we can counteract some of that with proper education and speaking with others and just continuing to grow our group and get those people to join in with us.” said Thompson

While it does look like council believes action does need to be taken, it won’t be immediate.

Council will consider getting more public input in the near future on a by-law from Your Say North Perth.
