A majority of last nights council meeting saw North Perth discuss the plans of what will likely be in place once the Listowel Memorial Arena is torn down, a Memorial Park.

The Memorial Park Master Plan was brought forward which with the proposals of the park.

2 different concept models have been proposed but both carry some very similar pieces such as a memorial space of the 1959 arena tragedy, as David Duhan of SHIFT Landscaping says, a memorial is an absolute must for the community.

“The tragedy extended beyond those who lost their lives. It was an event that impacted the community and is still affected by individuals who live with that event to this day. The intent of the survivors grove is to introduce a space that brings the community together and looks ahead to future generations.” said Duhan.

Duhan added the idea of a sensory play park, which he explained further.

“We introduce things like very durable wood, pathways to explore, a variety of different alternate features. We can really create a space that supports imagination yet is still remains accessible to everyone.”

Council approved the recommendation of the Master Plan report and asking staff to start working on a fundraising campaign to fund a portion of the Memorial Park project.
