North Huron residents are staring down the potential of a 20.65 per cent tax increase for the year which North Huron Reeve Paul Heffer says is something they haven’t seen before.
North Huron recently held their first budget meeting which also came at recommended cost cutting measures specifically aimed at recreation.
These include closing the Wingham indoor pool in July and August, closing the Blyth Arena from April-September and shutting down Wingham’s municipally run fitness centre in May.
Council is also looking at one of their two arenas to decide if one needs to be closed permanently to save money.
Another budget meeting is planned later this month.
