The North Huron Museum Committee of Council presented a report Monday night to the Township of North Huron Council for details on the proposed relocation of the North Huron Museum in Wingham from the former post office in downtown to the Former CNR Train Station located more north.

The existing location also known as the Old Post Office was closed in 2018 due to it needing $3.8 million in repairs and renovations to meet accessibility regulations.

The former Train Station building itself is being offered by it’s current owner on the stipulation that the estimated$425,000 building becomes a museum until at least 2040.

North Huron Council heard Monday night from a plan outlining the specifics of what the relocation would undertake, the benefits of the new location and the costs associated with the move.

The new location for the North Huron Museum would also house a visitor centre for tourism for the area.

The cost of renovations to the former train station, the move of artifacts and the setup of the new site with the exhibits at $300,000.

This is planned to be offset by grants from the various levels of government, fundraising within the community and sponsorship from businesses.

The report was accepted by Council with them coming back to the topic November 10th.
