After many years of debate and staff reports, North Huron council has voted in favour of decommissioning the Howson Dam in Wingham.
While the dam has been in use for over 100 years, the condition of the structure has greatly deteriorated and investigation is showing its near the end.
Investigation from an engineering company showed parts of the dam were beyond rehabilitation.
Without a large investment provided by a new concrete addition the dam is not suitable to remain. The estimate support ranges between $1,974,000 to $4,224,000.
