Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece was on hand in Atwood today to announce new job-training opportunities coming to Perth-Wellington.
The announcement at Smith Steel & Fabrication was of the creation of the Regional Technology and Skills learning Hub and corresponding investment of over $1.8 million dollars by the Province.
Ontario is also contributing up to $92, 464 to the Technical, Training Group to help local youth find hands-on training in welding & metal fabrication.
The funding will come from the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s Skills Development Fund. Pettapiece made the announcement on behalf of Monte McNaughton, the Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development.
North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg says this addition can bring more skilled trades locally.
“I have a clear vision of North Perth as a regional learning centre and a place where talents and skills can be developed.” said Kasenberg
The municipality of North Perth plans to create a new learning space in Atwood’s Elma Memorial Community Centre, says Mayor Todd Kasenberg, which will support participants by addressing barriers they face in their learning journeys.
Currently North Perth residents must travel over 50 kilometers for any form of training. The project is set to make the area more competitive, enhance employers’ and individuals’ access to training, tools and education.
