New Elementary School Coming to Fergus

School board staff want to prepare for housing units nearing completion

The Upper Grand District School Board will be adding another school to its list in Fergus.

The provincial government has announced a new elementary school for the area which was backed by MPP Randy Pettapiece who says the province is providing $8.5 million in funding for a new school.

The government notes the site for the new school has not yet been acquired. School board staff recommended a new 308 pupil elementary school be built in north Fergus to prepare for the over 1500 housing units which are nearing completion.

Staff also say another 4000 housing units could be in Centre Wellington over the next 10 years.
